BRIAN KNUUTTILA HAS WORKED
HARD TO ADVANCE:
EDUCATION:
• Doubling the number of full-day
kindergarten classes in the Commonwealth.
• Strengthening early childhood literacy programs.
• Increasing the amount of state funds given to the
local district for education spending by 150% or $1.9
billion over the last few years.
• Reducing childhood hunger.
HEALTH CARE:
• Working to keep the community hospitals
open and provide incentives and support for community
health centers, keeping added stress off emergency
rooms.
• Making breast and cervical cancer treatment available
to low income women through a federal-state grant
partnership.
• Assuring the insurance coverage of cancer-related
clinical trials for all patients.
• Establishing a prescription drug program for all
Massachusetts seniors and disabled to cushion the cost
of prescription drugs.
ENVIRONMENT:
• Enacting the Community
Preservation Act, allowing communities to
conserve open space, preserve historic sites, and
produce affordable housing.
• Advocating for legislation to promote energy
efficiency and conservation.
BALANCED BUDGETS:
• Helping to establish the Rainy Day Fund, a
state savings account to cushion declines in the
economy, which totaled $2.3 Billion before being tapped
for the first time this year to help fund important
state programs.
• Producing budgets that are honestly and prudently
balanced by reliable revenue streams.
• Using the annual surplus of our years of prosperity to
accelerate the construction and completion of libraries,
roads, bridges, housing, public transportation, and open
space, thereby saving taxpayers millions of dollars in
borrowing costs.
JOBS:
• Helping to pass
numerous tax cuts making it easier to raise a family and
do business in Massachusetts.
• Working with others on a paid parenting leave plan
that is
leasable for
businesses and new parents.
• Helping to expand unemployment insurance benefits and
health care opportunities for unemployed workers.
• As a member of the Joint Committee on Commerce and
Labor working hard to promote national models for reform
in workers compensation and
unemployment insurance compensation.
AFFORDABLE HOUSING:
• Working with a diverse group of House
members in developing a comprehensive package to
preserve and produce affordable housing throughout the
Commonwealth.
